Hmmm…

Well, this is a complete turn of events. I might have to deny my invitation. I haven’t received it yet, so I have 10 days after I do to make a decision. Does anyone know if you can get an extension?

What?? Why?? I read your blog post about your invite in the mail recently and was excited to see where you were going!

Some family health issues came up today, and I’m not sure if I can go if it turns out to be serious. I’ll still keep you updated on where I was invited. Thanks for reading.

Whaaat? Why?? You can’t leave us hanging like this! Is everything okay?

Extension on the time to accept/deny? No idea, probably not. If you do have to deny it, you may get a second invitation depending on your reasons.

Well, I’m not sure if everything is okay. Some family issues came up today, and it could end up being very serious. We hope not. I’ll keep you updated.

Oh that’s no good, I’m really sorry to hear that. I feel like for something like that, Placement will be willing to work with you.

I hope so. I don’t know why, but I’m nervous they might revoke my invitation if I word something improperly. I don’t know if it could happen. It’s just that I don’t know if I have to deny it yet.

I am sorry to hear about your family health issues. Hopefully things are not serious. In the fortunate event that is, I am sure they would PC would accommodate your circumstances. I pray that all is well.

I think if you had a really good reason (which a serious family health problem is, I would think), they would probably accept that as a reason to turn your invitation down, and you’d probably be eligible for a new placement. But I’d wait and see if you know soon enough before contacting them.

    I hope everything’s ok

Thanks. I think I’ll try to wait it out as much as possible. It’s so crazy. Now I’m hoping that my invitation won’t get here anytime soon.

I’m sorry to hear about the turn of events. I received my invitation yesterday and on one of the forms it says with regarding to denying an invitation, “…Second invitations are rarely issued. Applicants who decline their first invitation will only be issued a second invitation in exceptional circumstances”. So my advice to you would be to start the dialogue with your placement officer as soon as possible. It might look better for you to defer your application until you figure things out than to deny an actual invitation. I wish you the best and pray that the family issues turn out okay.
